DICK’S — The Batter & The Fielder

Through research we had uncovered that players didn’t agree that baseball and softball were the same game. That although they were incredibly similar, they were distinctively different. Softball was a much faster game. Because the ball was larger and the diamond was smaller, the ball came to the infielders much quicker and therefore diving was a much important part of the game. So we couldn’t lump the two spots together, they needed to be unique.

We used Ernest Thayer’s poem Casey at the Bat as inspiration in creating our own modern day versions, The Batter & His Bat and The Fielder & Her Glove.

Cut-up and cut-down

:30s were the primary buy for these spots, but we also cut them down to :15s and :06s that worked real well. We also did something super crazy and cut a longer version splicing the two spots together and removing the VO. Using the rhythm of the music and diagetic sound to set the drama of the spot.
